Autism in the Family

Viva la Difference

Here I would like to talk about the positive things about autism, that is right some us who are on the autistic spectrum think that it is a good thing to be autistic and wouldn't want it any other way.

  • The REally Good Stuff

Some people see these as a disadvantage but I don't.

We See Things Outside The Box -- Doing things the same as everyone else just keeps things the same, how boring and unproductive is that.

We Are Very Logical -- We are straight line thinkers.

We Are Very Good At Certain Things -- this is our special interest.  We learn all about it and we become an expert in it, usually very early in life.  The best is to help direct us in a useful profession where we can use our special interest.

Zoning Out -- I think this is the best, just letting yourself drift in your mind, or processing your day.

We Have Extra Good Senses -- Some people think this is bad because it can interfere with our daily living but as we get older we learn ways to cope, for instance I wear sunglasses, other people wear headphones.  The good senses aide us in picking up things other people don't see, and aide us in our special interest.

Good Visual or Hearing Memory -- Most people on the spectrum will either see like a video recorder or hear like a tape recorder or end up in the middle.  This can be a good thing if you want to remember or a bad thing if something traumatic has happened.
