Here I would like to talk about the positive things about autism, that is right some us who are on the autistic spectrum think that it is a good thing to be autistic and wouldn't want it any other way. But first I start with the services I offer.
I am a private agency with the Medicine Hat FSCD (Family Services Children with Disabilities and you can contract respite hours with me if your child has the correct diagnosis. I will also do babysitting of sibilings at a private rate.
Sometimes it is difficult to understand why your child is acting why they do. That is where I come in. A fresh perspective from a person who is on the spectrum, raised a child through the school system (he is taking college courses) and can listen to your situation, and give you a new direction to head in. I will not promise to solve every problem, because you don't have a problem you have a family that just needs a little help to come together and work out a solution so that everyone can be together more.
Autism seems to be on everyone's mind and everchanging. I personally have always been me and always coping and so has my son. It is the rest of the people the NT's (Neurotypicals) that need to understand that we are lovely people with positive traits, if you want a positive attitude about Autism, I will come and present to you. I will explain the best way to teach us, and approach us, etc.
We See Things Outside The Box -- Doing things the same as everyone else just keeps things the same, how boring and unproductive is that.
We Are Very Logical -- We are straight line thinkers.
We Are Very Good At Certain Things -- this is our special interest. We learn all about it and we become an expert in it, usually very early in life. The best is to help direct us in a useful profession where we can use our special interest.
Zoning Out -- I think this is the best, just letting yourself drift in your mind, or processing your day.
We Have Extra Good Senses -- Some people think this is bad because it can interfere with our daily living but as we get older we learn ways to cope, for instance I wear sunglasses, other people wear headphones. The good senses aide us in picking up things other people don't see, and aide us in our special interest.
Good Visual or Hearing Memory -- Most people on the spectrum will either see like a video recorder or hear like a tape recorder or end up in the middle. This can be a good thing if you want to remember or a bad thing if something traumatic has happened.
